Project Overview

The bridge provides a convenient covered walkway to bridge the gap between the new trackside hotel and the international conference and exhibition centre. Overlooking the Hamilton Straight start-finish line, the 80m span bridge features state of the art digital screens aimed at stimulating corporate advertising bookings. The bridge utilises: an asymmetric warren truss to offset footfall induced vibrations; the tubular framing and spider fixings accommodate faceted glass facades; and smart temporary works involving pretensioned shores and piles to avoid track constraints. With cladding and glass pre-installed, the bridge was erected in three module sections from one-side access on the racetrack in a tight time-window between race practice sessions. The scope of work included construction of the entire bridge including, structure, metal decking, cladding, and concrete desk, along with the support of CareyGlass who installed the glass components. The project gained significant recognition and earned itself high commendation at IStruct’s Scottish Structural Awards. J&D Pierce (Contracts) were thrilled to have added to the architecture at this iconic British racing circuit.
